While in Malaysia, I studied the traditional Tjap batik of East Asia, an art form that few American women artists have had the opportunity to study. My frequent trips into the interior of Malaysia gave me a chance to explore the ancient cities; its fabrics, its accessories and special materials that were found in the market places.
While abroad, I taught at the National College of Arts, Textile Design Department and the Pakistan School of Fashion Design, both in Lahore, Pakistan. My involvement with the apprentices in the arts and my teaching experiences in the areas of textile materials and techniques in diverse cultures has given me a wonderful opportunity for comparison with the materials and techniques of my American heritage.
Exposure and association with aboriginal cultures has sharpened my taste for artistic detail, exotic color combinations, use of unusual fabric and innovative techniques. My work has been exhibited both in the United States and abroad.
The unique style I have created over the years will continue to evolve as I embrace the world and its many cultures. As I continue to travel and create art, my work and creative spirit will hopefully inspire others as the cultures of so many countries has inspired me.
